Apparently they've reissued the pieces, so these may be modern. If so they'll be a little smaller than the 60s originals

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 6 Empty Italy Ceramic Vase Identification 1950 - Bitossi

Post by vanlampve Tue May 10, 2016 5:46 am

My mother purchased a set of these vases in the 1950s and I am trying to track down some history and/or purchase some.  It looks like Italy 9766 on the base to me.  Any assistance would be great.  Peter

They might be Bitossi but you'd have to ask a Bitossi collectors group to be sure. The number relates to the retailer's import code rather than a factory code.

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 6 Empty ? Bitossi box

Post by lindylou08 Thu May 12, 2016 2:22 pm

Picked up today - my first piece of Bitossi Rimini .
Assuming that's what it is of course ! Is there any way of knowing its age ? What does the mark tell us - also seems to have a remnant of an original (?) label

60s vintage plus or minus 10 years I'd say. The marks were retailer's and export codes so they don't really help
Label remnant could be a Raymor wholesale label

Thanks for that. Would it be designed and/or made by this Aldo Londi that seems to appear in any mention of Rimini?

He was the creative director at the company at the time

The Rimini Blu collection of ceramics was created in the early fifties by Aldo. This collection of vases and animals is characterised by their unique blue colouring and irregular texture. Today the collection is regularly the subject of research both for it’s artistic value, stylistic charm and historical importance, with each piece bearing the Bitossi stamp.

New addition to the collection. This is a Bitossi decor known as 'Scavo' - meant to look like it has been dug up in an excavation. Bitossi (Italy) - Page 6 14034710

This is a bit unusual. I was only happy that it was Bitossi after seeing the same form in different acknowledged Bitossi decors. I haven't seen another in this decor. Bitossi (Italy) - Page 6 Tortoi10

Bitossi (Italy) - Page 6 Empty Midcentury Italian Cobalt Pieces with Multicolor Geometric Pattern- Bitossi

Post by rhunt44 Sun Jan 08, 2017 5:52 pm

Can anyone help me ID the maker of these great pieces? After a couple hours of internet research, the closest thing I have found was one piece that was similar, claiming to be Bitossi, but nothing else. They are cobalt blue with some black unglazed areas, and have multicolored glazings applied in a geometric pattern. the base appears to be terra cotta. I have a pair of candlesticks marked Italy 897, a biscuit jar marked Italy 850, and a vase marked either Italy 892 or 899, in black. Any thoughts? Sorry some of these came in oriented wrong, they turned after I inserted them and I don't know how to fix it! Thanks!

FF usually has a 4-digit number. These could be Bitossi - I'm sure I've had a Bitossi vase in the same form as the one in the photo.

Thanks Alex and Naomi. Alex it is interesting you would say that about the form...I have seen several Bitossi candlesticks in varying colors that match this form as well.

Does seem to be Bitossi, if it's the same design as this one from their catalogue -

Certainly looks right for Bitossi but I couldn't say if it was an Aldo Londi design. Do you have a base photo?
