Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
It's a bit difficult when you live in the world of Damien Hirst, as he doesn't make these things himself so even the ones his organisation say are legit could be seen as fakes.

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
Strange thing is Dan, someone (a crook) must have taken time and trouble to make
that stamp, but was just too thick to get it right.

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
yeah they have been popping up for the last 15 years, the faker was not a pottery expert as he used easily recognisable makes such as Bertoncello

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
I suppose its because only the cheap stuff has a plain bottom, but it is a rather pointless thing to do.

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
I'm not sure, something tells me they look relatively modern? I've seen similar looking modern items a few years back at a local auction, originating from Stoke on Trent.
I might be wrong though.

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
Did they sell for anything as I may want to send them to auction or I may keep them if not worth much Thanks

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
I say a few years back, more like 10-15 years back. They were that new the paint was wet 😂
Only the unsuspecting buyers bought them and later started to arrive with a Crown Devon stamp and a designer/painter name Dorothy Anne!

The exact mark is shown in Goddens. Why the doubt?
Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
I'm not doubting the mark in your book, though I am doubting that these vases are of that period?
The auction also used to have a regular flow of this type as well as Carlton Ware Toucans

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
Oddly enough, my first reaction to the stamped mark was that it didn't seem quite right and that it looked more recent than it purports. However the crazing to the glaze looks appropriately aged (and not faked as they did a few years ago) so maybe they are of a reasonable vintage.

Re: LEMONS,FAKES & GENERAL MISTAKES
thank you rob s for the link which came back as:
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your suspicions were correct. These vases were produced by a company named DNW (now closed) that bought the name Crown Devon after Fieldings closed in 1982. Devon Ware and Crown Devon were two of the brand names used by Fieldings and were appropriated by DNW and included in fake back-stamps in order to mislead collectors. Whether this makes the vases fakes is a moot point as Fieldings never used any such design but the back-stamps are without doubt fakes. Most of the pieces under the Crown Devon name were painted (or at least were signed) by Dorothy Ann while the Devon Ware pieces were the work of Bernadette Eve. Bernadette Eve, who was the ex-wife of David N. Williams (DNW), now has her own quite legitimate pottery business but both Dorothy Ann and David Williams died a couple of years ago.
As to value; to be quite honest they are worth whatever someone in willing to pay. If one ignores their provenance, they are quite good examples of modern ceramics but have little intrinsic value.
