John Maltby

An Early John Maltby Lamp Base 12" High - Maltby 1936 - worked with David leach unti, 1964 then own studio , newer sculptural  pieces  fetch high prices .

Very much a leach influence here I think .

signed john maltby on the base. it measures approx 10" across and 4" wide

I hope (one day) to have one of his coloured early dishes or lidded pots, love them to bits. In the meantime, here's a nice piece of his from his Stoneshill Pottery days (1964-1976). I got it as part of a local auction lot £25 in total. It sold well on ebay (after local expert Martin Browne helped me ID it - the mark is nothing like the one in BPSM).

also collected this back from P'Boro today . should sell it but i have hid it down beside the TV at the moment. very well done and would highly recommend the chap who done it for me

was a good bit, but someone had mounted it in a block of wood upside down. It was
many years later I found the mark in the Rice book which shows capitals, rather than
YOF which only shows a longhand signature.

The M is on a slant, and the dot off centre. It's a one dot one I tell yer, just like in t'book.

it would appear he used many different types of markings and a few unsigned as well , iv'e learned he made things quite quickly and wasn't fussed about bits falling off etc , used resin and polish brushed over parts , I am becoming more and more intrigued by his work and might try and buy some if the price is right .
