Re: Celtic pottery (Newlyn & Mousehole)
Bill and Maggie Fisher began potting in the late 1950's at Wharf Cottage Mousehole, their pottery was simply named 'The Studio' but in the early 1960's this unimaginative name was changed and Celtic pottery was born.
Bill left Maggie and his tiny pottery in 1967 but Maggie continued with the venture employing Ian Box and his brother to make the clay bodies while she decorated.
In the 1970's she moved production to Newlyn . Here she met up with Ev Stevens who ran Newlyn's Gwavas Pottery and together they launched the Medallion range, later (around 1982) they employed several Troika potters including Leslie Illsley, Peter Ellery and Benny Sirota

Re: Celtic pottery (Newlyn & Mousehole)
Bill & Maggie Fisher set up a studio pottery simply named 'the studio' at Wharf cottage Mousehole, they then changed the name to Celtic pottery before their Marriage hit the rocks and they went their separate ways.
Maggie went to Newlyn where she set up Celtic pottery Newlyn

Re: Celtic pottery (Newlyn & Mousehole)
two Celtic cats, the blue one is earlier (and rarer) with the original open base

the cats were made in 2 sizes but I have yet to find the large variety which stands at 12-14 inches!!

Re: Celtic pottery (Newlyn & Mousehole)

at first glance this look like just another dish with steam trawler decoration but it marks the changeover from white earthenware to stoneware clay which resulted in a more polished finish and a much more robust product
