Nice to find a lowerdown mark (and even nicer to find a hand signed D.L. on bottom) seen the LD stamp often but not a personal sig.

He did that when the original plan was to sell it as a Lowerdown piece i.e. cheaply but after decorating he was especially pleased with that aspect and so "upgraded" it.

Strangely this was only 15 mins away, but was there at 0540 with a torch.

2 little condiment bottles with caligraphy, and luckily with their tiny stoppers.

Interestingly the sgraffito motif either side of the writing, is identical
to that on Naomi's storage jar shown earlier in the thread.

My weekly DL pick-up, a golf-ball sized miniature.

I hope this is in the right thread, there are no other marks to indicate a specific pottery but you guys will know better than me.  There is some mega damage to one handle but I don't mind, it is yellower than the photo suggests and I am just happy it didn't go in the bin

Picked up this very nice David Leach early Lowerdown tin glazed butter dish with DL stamp. Body made of red earthenware.

I think It's more likely for cheese. Nice thing amyway.

Very small, just over 14 cm wide and I thought a small round butter maybe. Cheers for the bump over to DL thread.

Ok, yes that is small, but just right for a small round Stilton or Camambert!

A cut sided porcelain footed bowl, with an interesting glaze.

A large stoneware tankard with a fantastic tenmoku glaze, mainly brown if you're right-handed, mainly black if (like me) you're left-handed. The upper half of the seal is filled with glaze.

Everything about it screams Lowerdown to me, and the visible lower part of the seal could be the bottom stroke of the Lowerdown L. But there's no way to tell if this signifies the generic L+ mark or David Leach's personal LD mark.

Or maybe it's not the bottom of an L at all? Maybe it's something else entirely?

Any comments, please?

Definitely a Lowerdown tankard. I think the mark is the L+ where the + has a split tail. It’s not an LD mark

Thank you Naomi. That's it! I've never seen the Lowerdown cross with a bifurcated tail. Any idea if it has some particular significance?

I assumed it was an early version of the mark. Tbh I don’t even know why he used a cross in the first place

The site of the bungalow and pottery is near a cross roads at Lowerdown, which is just a few houses. That's my understanding and it was called that before David bought the property.

Other Leachs have potted there over the decades and it’s possible each would have made their own version of the Lowerdown stamp, just as potters training at Winchcombe made their own WP stamps

Looks like the Lowerdown pottery mark.
If the top of the rim is unglazed, it may be missing a lid.
