Yes IW is the usual mark for Inger Waage - this is her work, it's in the book I have. I do have so some pieces marked with her full name - I'm away from home right now but I think that's an earlier mark.

Yes it is and Inger Waage was born in the town of Stavanger in 1923.

She studied ceramics in Oslo for 3 years and in 1946 returned to Stavanger to start her own workshop. In 1953 she became the head of a newly established department for handicraft production at Stavangerflint AS and remain with the company until 1979.

She died in 1995.

Not everyone's cup of tea but you can't deny the strong design. Not common here but I'm sure they can be had from Scandinavia. The dealer I got it from makes regular trips.

Length 6.5".  Looking at other Inger Waage ones in this thread, I don't think it can be by anyone else?
A UK charity shop buy about 15 years ago (would have been £1 or 2).  Didn't know anything about it (I don't bother looking at marks before buying ceramics, just saw the rich colours and exuberant style, and that was it).
Anyone know the date(s) of this series?  (I find it interesting to know which items in my (very small!) midcentury collection were contemporary with each other).

I know that in 1959 the factory decided that all over painted wares took time to produce and started to bring in silkscreen + painting and less of an all over the surface pattern so I will say it is 1953-59. However, I've probably forgotten more information about Scandinavian pottery than I remember, as it was an interest years ago, so I wouldn't stake my life on it being correct.

I like the later styles too, but if I could only choose one it would be this.
I paint, and I find those sure brush strokes inspiring.  Also what's possible with a limited palette.  (And that rich cobalt-type blue is a favourite of mine!).
