Thoughts on this vase please.
Hi,
I picked this up over the weekend. It was sitting in the corner of one of our local thrift shops, covered in an inch of dust so it had been there a while. Anyway the fellow that owns the shop is closing down as he's just had enough and is ready to retire. I went in looking for a couple of lampshades for this pair of absolutely gorgeous Asian Mid Century table lamps that the wife and I found last week and he told me he was packing it in and basically gave me everything I could carry for almost free, well enough for him to go and buy a decent lunch, lol...
There's no doubt that it is quite pretty but beyond that I am wondering if anyone sees anything to it in so far as maker, era etc etc. It's got lovely white spatter and a two color stripe. The pontil is ground completely smooth. It is also extremely heavy. Thanks a ton in advance for any help.

The orange and brown stripes look like gloss paint. If they are paint I'd consider removing them because they look a bit naff.
If it is paint it may peal off if you soak it in warm soapy water, otherwise try paint stripper.

It's not paint. I'm not so daft as to think a piece of glass with paint slapped on the outside would be any big deal. I guess I did forget to mention it's cased glass. Maybe it's a student piece!

Hi
About 20 years ago I found a tall cylinder vase with this mottled white finish with two upright irregular stripes in an orange/brown colour. The piece had a ground out pontil on base with an etched signature which no one could read in the antique centre I was in. Eventually I sold it for about £10 as this man kept coming in and asking what I wanted for it and the owners got miffed that I wouldn't price it. Anyway the buyer came back and flaunted it in my face as it was a Venini Italia vase. Mine had a good 5mm clear casing on it though which is not the same here. I would double check for a signature on base.

Sorry, but I can only go by the picture, and it looked like paint. And I've bought painted vases before now where the previous owner has thought they'd tart up something special with their own glass paint job.
