Help with German Vase Empty Help with German Vase

Post by Modine February 9th 2012, 3:06 pm

When I purchased it, this vase was identified on an attached tag as Steuler -- but that seems like it may be incorrect to me. The fact that it's marked Germany rather than W. Germany is probably a dead giveaway, but I can't place it. Can anyone confirm the maker? As always, thanks so much for your help!

Its a good candidate for Scheurich, around 1970,

The lack of W.Germany is a question, but there was a 'famous' '313' jug designed by Kurt Tschorner from earlier years, its curious that yours is numbered 317.

Yours might be a design by A. Scheide, basic price guide from research is £70 - £120

Many german companies used the same numbers , the 313 by ruscha was a well known pitcher ,but the shapes are so common I often wonder if they were produced by onefactory and sold on then glazed ,your price is way off , more like £10-£20 I'm afraid , Ed

Yes i did say there were questions on this, I suppose my price was based on it being by the designers mentioned, which to reiterate, was questionable. but i was just hoping to point out a source of investigation for the person that posted, i am certainly no expert and will refrain from valuing unless it is cast iron obvious in future.

it's always dodgy to give valuations on modern pottery as it's genarally worth what someone will pay

Help with German Vase Empty Re: Help with German Vase

Only a few companies used the upper case MADE IN GERMANY mark

I think Fohr should be taken into consideration. Unusual glaze though.

Fohr 300 range with 2 or 3 generations of vases, origin marks
GERMANY (until mid 1950s)
MADE IN GERMANY, e.g. 309, 310, 312, 313, 316, ..., 341
W.GERMANY, e.g. 337, 338, 342

Fohr 400 range handled vases, same origin marks.

Thanks so much for all the leads everyone. Vhb64, I think you may be correct! I just found a differently shaped vase in this decor on Ebay, and it's identified as Fohr. (I don't want to link to the Ebay listing, but if you do a quick search for Fohr you'll see it.) It's not proof of course, but this is certainly more information than I had previously. Thanks again for the assistance.

You are referring to vase 342-24 MADE IN GERMANY on Ebay.com ?
Yes, it´s fairly sure a Fohr piece and so is your vase, i think.
Another one solved imo.

I'm not sure that's the same one I found on Ebay -- the one I'm talking about is Item #120783748970 (from a seller in Hessen, Germany). The decor is an exact match to my vase, but the shape is different. Unless anyone has a reason to believe the Fohr attribution of that vase is incorrect, I think you're right -- this one is solved. Thanks again for your help!

We are talking about the same vase. Shape 342 is also known with other glazes
and the W.GERMANY mark as mentioned.
