I like it, the mark looks like it could be a stylized birds head?

it isn't a potter I have come across before Dave,the nearest in style is Jane Hamlyn but I doubt she made your butter dish

Check out Jennie Hale she produced some salt glaze items in the 80's that have a very similar style most are unmarked though. Could be a link in some way.
