CAN ANYONE MAKE OUT THE MARK ON THIS POT AND MAKER PLEASE? FEEL BRITISH TO ME BUT NOT SATIN.

beautifully made lidded pot decorated with what looks like sycamore seeds and marked with a G.  any ideas?

I'm sure one (or some/all!) of you will be able to help me with identifying this lovely pot. It's 9.5 cm  and the decoration appears to be of sycamore 'wings'

wondered if anyone could ID the mark on this jug please, cannot tell whether it is two letters or just a G with the bottom part missing.  Surprisingly light for it's size and appearance, thanks

Anyone recognise the style of this, unfortunately unmarked, the base has a central unglazed 'button'

A tea set has turned up on ebay with the following description :

 .....BY TERRY GODBY WHO....WORKED AT LEACH BEFORE WORKING AT EELES POTTERY BEFORE SETTING UP HIS OWN POTTERY COMPANY IN LINCS AND WAS RETIRED NOW.

Sounds promising for those pots, they certainly seem to have an Eeles connection.

Yes, a couple of times I've seen very similar Eeles pots and would have identified these as Eeles if it hadn't been for the mark. Someone else thought they were by an ex-Leach apprentice but seems they got the wrong one.

No way as pretty as yours but must be the same potter, bought today 2nd hand- no marks.

I'm pretty sure this is by Terry Godby. I bought a few pieces new from a long-gone shop in Enfield that used to sell his work, and have acquired some more second-hand since.

Thanks Hercules, was wondering if you have a photo of any of the pieces you bought from Terry's shop that looks similar to these. for me and Davee to look at?

I spotted a jug in the same pattern on the car boot sale last week, and it was marked with a G impressed stamp. there is little info about Terry Godby though.

I agree Davee, I spent an hour or so this morning trying to find some info' about Terry and pretty much drew a blank

It wasn't his shop, it was a toy shop that had diversified and stocked various potters. I must have got these there sometime in the late 1980s. Sorry about the terrible photo: it's a plant holder holding a rather temperamental plant I didn't want to move:

I've got something with the same pattern as the cheese dish: I got it secondhand, but I seem to remember, or remember remembering, seeing the same decoration on sale in the shop.

Have only just found this site. I don't think the last pic is Terry Godby - we have several pieces by him and the colour's wrong, it's too matte and the style of the flower is stiffer.

My husband's ex in-laws used to run the shop Newson's of Enfield, mentioned in earlier posts. It was partly high-class toys and dolls-house items, partly crafts (wooden rocking horses, studio pottery). Terry Godby did retire some years ago; I rang him using an old tel.no. when searching for  replacement dinner plate. He was v gracious (I'd rung at 11 pm, thinking to leave a message on a shop answerphone). He explained that he was retired from potting and that he and his wife now sold furry slippers at craft fairs.
All Terry's work I've seen is either the simplified flower, or the 'sycamore' shape or variant. It's always a slightly shiny speckled greyish background, with brushwork in dark grey and occasional small coppery touches.
Hope this is of interest.

Hopefully the member will add a photo of the mark, if there is one. Maybe it’s by one of the Eeles family members?

Completely unmarked I'm afraid. I can't swear that it was actually labelled as his work, but I did buy it from Newsons and the pattern is pretty much identical to another jardiniere I bought there in his more usual colours (sorry about the photo - plant still temperamental ).  I do have a dark grey Godby mug somewhere (the first  piece of his I bought), but this  is from a few years later.   The base is wiped clean like all the other Godby pieces I've seen - no trace of wire marks. But on the other hand the clay is rather darker than usual and the painting and throwing rather  less relaxed.
