Old? Dutch? vase Empty Old? Dutch? vase

Post by vizibell February 8th 2011, 10:26 am

I bought this vase in France at a local summer brocante in 2004. Everything on offer was beyond my price range. Then I saw this vase and loved the colours. BAD news. It has lumps out of the "foot" (see pic) and I think it has been reduced in height. GOOD news. It's not cracked! I was determined to come away with something so I bought it for 10euros (about £7.50). I think it's Dutch; it is 29cm tall and it looks OLD to me. There are marks on the base that are just visible in the pic (is it a house and some figures?).
Could someone tell me where and when it was made? With the damage it has sustained, is it worth anything?

The little house is the symbol for Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH) and as bistoboy says is a company from the Gouda region

Thanks for the info which has led me to believe my vase was possibly produced in 1905 (there is the letter H on the base). There is a huge variety of designs but nothing quite like mine. Am I right in thinking no two pots are the same? I would welcome opinions on whether or not the vase has any intrinsic value, bearing in mind the damage sustained. I enjoy it for its decorative value.

I wasn't angling for a valuation, just wondered if it would be saleable or unsaleable in its condition. I have taken on board what you say. No harm done I hope. V

Happy Vizi, you liked and bought it with the damage, maybe someone else would.

An interesting subject, I don't like any damage personally - but did you see the damaged libation cup on flog it recently?

Hi there
No I missed that episode of Flog it! But I have seen on tv badly damaged Delft ware chargers go for big bucks. Having said that, they were centuries old! V
ps We are building ourselves up to venturing into our garage stacked with boxes to find some perfume bottles to post on Show & Tell.
