Here's a very personal insight into the Rylatt's home life, it also shows some really wonderful pieces and aspects of the production process

Re: Ian Rylatt
Cup or goblet by Ian Rylatt from Hatfield.
Sometimes it is worth buying at a fair just for the story that accompanies the piece. A number of years ago (I forget how many, but it may have been his student years) he’d made a full sized ceramic bassoon which the college (or museum) had bought for their perminant collection. It was made in sections and when dismantled it made up a decanter and 6 cups. Unfortunately a student broke one and he was asked to make a replacement, but try as he might he couldn’t match the bronze glaze, although (I think) he did manage to match the fit. In the end he started from scratch and made a couple more life sized ones. One in matt black was at the show. He was also selling the sections as individual cups, hence this one in the bronze glaze.
