English pot marked BL with 2 dots
Can anyone help with the ID on this pot please. It came to me from Maidstone, Kent, UK. It is 10 inches tall, well made and seems to have some age, judging from the patina. It is signed with a brush, in oxide BL with 2 dots.

Bernard Leach springs to mind , but the dots appear to be in the wrong place ,IMO , I don't think this a leach , possibly someone's added the signature later .

Re: English pot marked BL with 2 dots
saw this on ebay and almost bid on it myself, but like you guys, i came to the conclusion that it wasn't by Leach
Re: English pot marked BL with 2 dots
Yeah, I know, not Leach. I just wanted to see what some of you guys thought about this. I can't help wonder what Brit would have the stones to sign a pot in this manner. I would think if it were intended as a forgery, they might have been a bit more accurate with the signature.

We have some here too. I'm thinking of all the phony George Ohr and Beato pots that keep popping up....

I think it's the ugliest BEATO I've ever seen. If it is high fire stoneware as opposed to earthenware, then it is fake. I'll try to forward this to my friend Jim Haggerty, who knew Beatrice. He is very familiar with her work and is a bit of an expert on the materials, glazes and the fine points of her signature.

Re: English pot marked BL with 2 dots
I've heard back from my friend Jim, who looked at Ed's pot and thinks the firing and signature are not correct to have been made by Beatrice. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
By the way, I had previously listed a link to Jim Haggerty's website under the American-Canadian section. If you look at his work, you will see that he is a master of luster glazes (as Beatrice was). He has several of her pieces and is very familiar with her materials and processes.

Oh, pardon me Dan, I forgot you did look at Haggerty's site--consider that last remark for general consumption.
