Signature looks about right to me anyway.

Clay / glaze / throwing looks about what I'd expect for his earlier work.

Going by the date and the BSPM Book, it may have been an item he produced towards the very beginning of his pottery career, as the first pottery he run seems to have been at Spruce Bank from 1969-75? Maybe even as he was training? (BSPM is not always correct by the way)

100% genuine , Lyons Graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1965 , he was also a singer with the Scottish Opera , Hence "the singing Potter " Tag he has , early work was exhibited at the Paisley Museum that has some of the finest works anywhere , He potted in Wanlockhead for a time as well but I don't know the dates of that , How big is your bowl ?

Thanks Potty & Big Ed for your excellent comments and info. In answer to your question Big Ed the bowl measures: diameter = 30cm, height = 11cm. Thanks again for your help.

Moffat Pottery, Gerard T. Lyons - Page 2 Empty Moffat pottery vase with inscribed mark

Post by GloriaB February 17th 2014, 4:17 pm

I wondered if anyone else had a piece of Moffat pottery with an inscribed mark on the base?
My vase has: Moffat  K.K. 74   13-8 74 written into the clay on the base.
I have other pieces of Moffat pottery with impressed marks but I've never seen one like this before.

Hello, I can't decipher the mark on the base. It says something Pottery, I've tried researching all the things I think I can possibly see but to no avail. Any ideas would be great :)Moffat Pottery, Gerard T. Lyons - Page 2 Img_4918
