Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
Oh, I found out last night that if you become a member of Newark Showground for £25/pa you get 2-for-1 on tickets for the antiques fair. At £20p/p it only takes two fairs to start saving money.
On the website it only mentions it for this year - will have to enquire if the 2-for-1 is valid for next year's fairs too.
For those going on the Friday this time around, there's a 2-for-1 offer here: http://www.iacf.co.uk/showoffer/?fair=Newark

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
August tends to be the deadest one of the year for trade buyers so they tend to push it a bit harder with the public. Olympics and sunny weather don't help either.
October tends to be trade buyers stocking up for Christmas, so probably no offers.

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
there were lots of 'weekend dealers' at the Lincoln fair this time.

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
I just returned from Newark fair, there were very few foreign buyers,I think this was a result of inflated air fares designed to cash in on the London Olympics

Yes saw that lot , Tim with the pink shirt from dickesons deal was selling , Mike Melody was just hanging about , Iv'e never saw anything by the tv sellers worth a jot on their stalls , yesterdays antiques are not todays collectables , I do find it funny at times when you go to these fairs , I enjoy browsing around but it's like groundhog day , same people at the same pitches with the same stock , all on first name terms , how do they make any money ?

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
Stopped doing the Lincoln and Newark fairs here. 4 hours car drive from London followed by hotels means it needed to be fantastic for the numbers to work. Tried Lincoln once (terrible rocky tables) and Newark 3 times and could not call any of them fantastic. Now Peterborough on the other hand (twice a year) is a fantastic fair.

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
Funny, both Lincoln and Newark are less than 1 hour away, but haven't bothered for
many years now, however Uttoxeter fair last Saturday was great, £1.50 admission,
after going to the adjacent (free) carboot, made for a good Saturday.

Re: Lincoln and Newark fairs
I went up on the Thursday and i think they should drop the word antique from the title. If you wanted shabby chic then this is the fair for you. Pottery collectors need not bother going as that was very poor ( not much Moorcroft even!!!! ) but it was a lovely day out in the sun. Pity Peterborough is only twice a year and if only they could slot a third one in during the year
