Alsterfors or maybe not.
Hi,
I purchased this blue vase on Ebay recently. The vase was listed as being Czech in origin but my opinion was that was Scandy, probably Alsterfors. I still think it's Scandy but possibly not Alsterfors. It's quite heavy at 650gms measures 7" tall and has a diameter of 4". I would assume that an Alsterfors interior would be solid white but this vase has a pale blue almost white lining. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryn

Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
Not 100%, but it might be by one of the German cased glass makers - Hirschberg, Taube or Karl Friedrich (the latter is the most likely of the three).
Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
Thanks Nik,
After handling, a friend suggested a German company because of the thickness of the glass but also thought it could be Ekenas or even RYD.
Cheers,
Bryn

Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
It's the hooped form and the description of the milky interior that makes me think German - both of which seem quite common in the glass I've seen and handled by the factories I mentioned - and I'm fairly sure (I'm working from memory) that Friedrich had the same (or similar) shade of dark blue in their palette.
But, yes, without conclusive evidence, it could very probably be by one of the Swedish companies you've mentioned. I've not really seen much cased glass from them.

Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
Is there a Website that you can recommend for me to gain more a little info on Karl Friedrich and his designs Nic?
I've googled the name but come up with very little on Glass design, well 20th Century glass anyway.
Cheers,
Bryn

Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
Jan Kilian's site is pretty good - most, if not all, of the European attributions are spot-on as far as my own knowledge takes me:
http://www.glaskilian.de/Friedrich.507.0.html
Googling "Friedrich Kristall" might bring up a few other sites.

Re: Alsterfors or maybe not.
Thanks Nik, there are definately examples there which are very similar to my piece. I can also see another that is very much like a vase I purchased at an Antiques fare in Builth Wells a few weeks back.
