JJ mark? or W or ?
Pretty sure these are British - I have a few of them all with the same mark but different dates and some with an x on.
Most of them appear to have some detriment but not damage as if they were seconds.
The mark is very clear on every pot and they are BL very diverse in terms of pattern & size and form.
Thanks as always

I think they are by a hobby potter. Probably potting locally. The Potters Association covering your region might know who they were

Unfortunately they were bought at auction together with some Winchcombe, Wenford Bridge & Cardew so it’s difficult to pinpoint an area to start on….. but hey Ho all good fun

I doubt they’ve travelled far from where the auction house is based. Possibly by whoever placed the items for auction, or their family having a clear out

Nice pieces. Trouble is, there are a great number of hobby potters that did really nice work. When the bug gets into you, it is a very satisfactory hobby. Mucking around with clay and producing something of near beauty.

I’m realising that Philpot - fortunately not too much to my cost as there were a couple of pieces worth the cost of the lot …….but there were 21 of this potters pieces.philpot wrote:Nice pieces. I’ve done as Naomi suggested and posted on the Midland potters website & I’ll wait and see what comes of it.
I was on my jollies and got a bit carried away but there was the smallest piece of Michael Cardew I’ve seen so far amongst them
Best wishes
Neil

Multi Lots at auction are so very attractive! You view it, and there are very often a couple of real gems within them. So you frustratingly end up with a fair amount of nice pottery which you cannot identify. Done it myself too many times
Still there is one consolation. They often make nice presents. My family have alot of them!
