Re: Jacob Epstein (1880-1959)
I always look up when I go past Charing Cross - 100m to the east north side.
Jacob Epstein's Mutilated Sculptures | Lost Art
Although the six figures representing aspects of medicine and science attracted little attention, the twelve statues representing different stages of life were greatly criticised,

Re: Jacob Epstein (1880-1959)
Thanks for the images philpot , Jacob Epstein never really fulfilled his full potential as a truly great sculptor but he produced one of the 20th centuries greatest sculptures, a Vorticist piece titled 'Rock Drill' in c1913,this futuristic looking piece was well ahead of its time and not well received, only reproduction copies now exist as Epstein dismantled it in the 40's, one piece was in the Sainsbury Centre at one time, now in the Tate. We owned a piece of his some years ago depicting a girls head, he seems to have specialised in these portrait commissions for most of his life and they are not that rare and are relatively inexpensive at auction.
This sculpture was originally mounted on a large metal drill.

Re: Jacob Epstein (1880-1959)
Epstein was also a painter mainly of flowers in a semi abstract style ,these fetch as much as his ordinary bronzes in auction but are less well known.
