I came across this relatively small glass object (18cm height), first thought it was a bud vase of sorts but found out that it is an 18th or 19th century Persian rosewater sprinkler, or askhdan. Folklore has it that these objects are ‘tearcatchers’: when women were left behind as their husbands went off to war, they would shed their tears in an askhdan to collect as many as possible. If and when their men returned, they would gift it to them as a token of their love.
I think it’s beautiful and thought I’d share.
