What is it? - ashtray

As the title says: what is it? Here at home we have gone from ashtray with lid to incense burner in a church to covered pot to keep hot coals in. In other words: we have no idea. Anyone?

If it is an ashstray, maybe from a bar/cafe? What is the size?

An ashtray commercial presmises. You could rest your lighted fags in that flower on top and also use the ashtray. The covering would extinguish any dog ends

Most votes (also here) go to ashtray, clearly. It’s hammered steel, diameter approx 20cm -guessing, as I am not at home. Thanks Phil for the comment on the use of the flower, that makes sense.
