Alan Caiger-Smith and apprentices, Aldermaston Pottery

Mohamed Hamid jug, with his HA monogram. Trained at Aldermaston then joined Jonathan Chiswell Jones before setting up his own Star Pottery. WA is the Aldermaston Pottery code for Lustre ware  

[ Ian - going back that bowl could well be by Laurence McGowan - he used a series of marks after leaving Aldermaston. Blues and greens are also his type of glaze. ]

Aldermaston mug, part of their standard ware. Marked with a 6. on the base.

Is that possibly a 1969/70 date mark ?

I was wondering that but couldn't be sure.

I think the mark on the base is a date mark rather than a monogram. Possibly the conjoined triangles for 1994; the rest may be hidden under the glaze.

Would make sense. I haven't seen many dates on pieces and alot of assistants' pieces are unmarked standard ware.

An unusual coffee pot, I'm guessing Geoffrey Eastop, the only "E" potter on the list,
though the mark isn't exact. Any comments?

I see a lot of the lustre pieces markes "10A" what does that mean?

When you say W & WA are glaze codes do you mean relating to how long they should be fired?

Example - I have a piece marked 10A WA 92 (then ACS under)

I think they relate to the particular chemical composition of the glaze or lustre.

AM or AW mark. A for Aldermaston but who is M or W?

The only one close to it seems to be Martin Wright.

Does anyone know the name of this potter please?

Comparing it with the list above, yes I think so.

Aldermaston potters had to have an A in the monogram, so this is a combination of T and A

Pretty sure that is alan caiger-smith's mark, with 3 dots for 1963
