Two finds, a lustre David Tipler (61-75) and a dated 1960 ACS tall goblet in pastel colours. I've worked out how to colour match photos in Photoshop - it takes time but it's worth the effort.

Just a couple, do you realise how many banana boxes of studio I have in the attic?
It would take me days to find the other bits! These were to hand...

Has to dig these out so sorry for the dust. Two Aldermaston Tankards. One David Tipler and 2nd a complete mystery? Bought in 2007 £17? Unknown? Also the DT mark with the 'E' what is this? The dots in the ring normally note the year but I don't gettit.

DT was from the notes 1961-75, so 11 dots means? Shrugs Confused.

Two goblets that are 75% scale of the normal ones. The can only be described as 'female' IMO they are 'shoulder height' - The brown one is the star. Base is about normal size giving them strange proportion.

I have just found out that Geoffrey Eastop, one of the co-founders of the Pottery, died on Christmas Day 2014. His memorial service was held last Friday, 16th January 2015, which would have been his 94th birthday.

In the wider world he is perhaps best known for his association with the artist, John Piper, making and firing large platters that Piper decorated.

I have several unmarked Aldermaston pieces. They only carry the skinny ACS mark with  no date.

It was suggested earlier when I posted one that these may be pre 1959, London pieces. Does anyone have any feasible info on identifying if this hypothesis is correct?

I haven't seen many with dates tbh. I think they may simply be examples of standard ware which where made for many years by 'staff and students' alike so they just didn't bother to date them.

Naomi - they all just carry the ACS monogram (skinny) but no date mark which was in use from 59, suggestion was that they were London early 50's

Suggestion to me (see early thread) was that you can identity early London (50s) pieces as unmarked and different of possible alternate colour pallet. Wondering if anyone has any more info on this as I have more items to test theory against.

(Notion that some later piece may have missed date mark is understood).

Aldermaston isn't something that I have a great interest in but lustres were used later and the colour palette was more muted in the early years.

Not sure it is an exact science in that you can date every piece but why not post an image of an item and its mark and see what the opinions are?

Denby are you sure Hannah McAndrew was an apprentice at Aldermaston? Her bio says she was an apprentice to Jason Shackleton at has pottery in Galloway, which he set upwhen he'd left Aldermaston where he was the apprentice.

She's on FB. If I get the chance I'll ask her.

Edited to add that I've removed her from Denby's apprentice list (and added Shackleton) because she wasn't there. She was Shackleton's apprentice after he left Aldermaston.

Here are the two ACS goblets I mentioned before. They don't carry a base date mark The usual assumption is that they forgot to date them, but my question is could they be pre-dating  mark?

They came as a pair from the London Area a few years back. The book has three different ACS marks in it, two for 56-63 (London Studio) and one for 55 onwards. Can anyone tell the difference? They are both quite anemic in colour. In form - they are just about the same as everything else, bases are a little arched. A little crazing inside, but less than others I have seen. I have more ...somewhere boxed up.

The magic tape on the base is just me marking them as a pair as they came together P1/P2 and ACS etc.

They look fairly standard shape and decoration which they made for many years. I think, like other standard ware, they simply didn't bother to date them. Sometimes they didn't even bother to sign them.

Yes, that may be so. But my question is why are there three marks in the book and does anyone know if there was a consistent difference in the ACS signature?
