Murano Vase maker. AVeM?
Hi, is anyone able to help with the maker of my vase and when it was made please? I’ve looked on the internet and found several AVeM pieces that look similar with the same colour base glass.
Vase is approx 32cm tall and very well made. Definitely not machine made, base is polished and top nicely finished no signature or sticker. Base glass is dark amethyst with silver foil. The Murrini appear to be on a different layer to the feathering. Entire vase encased in clear. Very heavy. I lampwork and use Murano glass cane, the colours all match rods I have. Please excuse poor photos.

Hi there, no the pix look fine, but with all glass we do need a base picture.
Re: Murano Vase maker. AVeM?
I think those murrines are Chinese

It looks Chinese to me, these tumbler-type ones are often misattributed as AVeM.

Thanks that’s interesting and surprising! We always assumed it was Murano as it came from my grandfather who was Italian. I’ve known it since I was a kid, probably 45 to 50 years. It always sat in the same place with a collection of venetian figurines which Mum can remember them buying in Venice during the 50’s and early 60’s Unfortunately she can’t remember when or where this one was bought. Have the Chinese been making high quality copies that long?

Quite a lot of glass sold in Italy and Murano is imported from China and can have ‘Italy’ labels on them. Best to try to match the murrines to known pieces by AVEM

I searched for murrine, tutti frutti and silver leaf glass and a few similar ones turned up on Google. The AVeM ones had latticio canes and coloured ribbons of glass in them. I saw a couple like yours attributed to AVeM but didn't see any amongst the sold items on ebay

Thanks, I’m going to have a good look at murrine over the next few weeks. Because I work with effetre glass which is manufactured and used on Murano I already have a lot of raw murrine in various colours and styles. I also have several paperweights bought directly from Fratelli Toso and Eugenio Fratelli so will look at their murrine too.
It’s curious because the vase has been in the family for so long that if it’s a fake it must be from before late 60’s, very early 70s. My experience of Chinese glass from that period is very poor quality with “off” colours, especially the reds and clear and unpolished pontils. The clear casing on mine is also crystal clear without that tinge much Chinese glass has.
I have checked the colours against effetre glass that I use and know to be genuine and nothing appears amiss. I have rods of every production colour and many of the special and rare colours effetre produced going back for about 30 years! I also have some other makes of European rod, lauscha, reichenbach, kugler, and some Chinese lampworking rod, it definitely is none of these. It could of course be vetrofond glass which is Italian, very similar to effetre with the same COE and similar palette.

I saw a couple like yours attributed to AVeM and Murano on sales websites like 1stDibs which, tbh, I wouldn't trust so it would be good to solve the mystery.

If it's from the late 50s, I would think it very likely to be from Murano.
There's some of some similarity signed Maestro Calieotonio Murano, but I can't find anything about that maker.
