Jane Cairns

I have been meaning to put items of Jane's work up here for a while but, as she doesn't mark her work I thought that it would me no good for your database, Naomi.

Jane Cairns came to ceramics after pursuing a career in the business world. She graduated with a First-Class Honours degree from the University of Westminster (Harrow) in 2011. Since then she has taken part in numerous mixed exhibitions around the UK.

In 2013 she was selected for the Crafts Council Hothouse Emerging Makers Programme and also gained a research residency at the British Ceramics Biennial. Since then Jane has continued to exhibit throughout the UK.

Besides the Harlequin Gallery stocking her work, I do have a few pieces of my own - it's my collection, if you like, but it's not really on a par with real collections.

Here's a couple of her Blade forms that I sold before Christmas.


Her work is hand-built and she generally has to fire it numerous times to achieve the colour and texture she requires.

Up until around 2015, Jane made vessels similar to the one below.


These like the items above were always unmarked.

These days she makes wall-pieces of similar sheets, like the ones in Naomi's images above and the ones below in our bathroom.
