Rob Sollis studio cup / footed bowl
Rob Sollis studio cup / footed bowl
Marked SOLLIS 2001 J so made at Fishacre Pottery, Littlehempston near Totnes
I’m just a bit confused whether to describe it as a Cup - if so, is it a yunomi or chawan ? I’m so not clear on the difference.
My guess is it’s too small to be described as a bowl. 7.5 cm tall, 10.0 cm across.
Thanks.

Personal preference for me would be to describe it as a footed bowl.

Agreed.
I'm not sure how safe Western raku is for drinking out of (as opposed to Japanese raku), despite a number of potters making raku yunomis and guinomis.

It is a nice little decorative bowl that will appeal to a wide Xmas market. I often think in the studio pottery world that we are too involved in specialist jargon. Yunomi, chawan, etc are fine when taking about Mike Dodd or Jim Malone, but how many ordinary people would know what you are talking about if you put it in your header description?

Agreed. I have other troubles too. Is it blue or green? But that’s another matter and my wife says she is always right on colours!
