It looks like it has a bit of age to it Naomi. Says me, stating the obvious.
I wonder if that's a really early tourist piece, could it be late 19th century, just thinking out loud.

I keep wavering between studio pottery in the Eric James Mellon style, or 19thC Italian or 20thC Vallauris

Hi NaomiM, your dish seems to depict number 13 in the 14 stations of the cross, it is posed more like number14 but 14 is not normally shown with a cross in the background, my guess is it was made in a series although the number 8 showing is not right for the scene .

I wonder if the no.8 refers to a number in the Stations of the Cross? No.8 is "The women of Jerusalem weep over Jesus". If so it is one of a set: Where are the other 13?

Reminds me of El Greco but 1910? So Spanish? That must be continental. We did not make sentimental pieces like that
Re: Plate with Crucifixion scene, marked No.8 and AD monogram?
As i said above this is definitely not number 8 in the stations but could be mis numbered ,only speculation but there could be a ready market for this sort of ware in the more religious countries at Easter or other festivals , many early English delft dishes made in series were often mis numbered , although yours appears to be 20th century it might be carrying on that religious tradition. Good examples of the 14 stations by Eric Gill are in Westminster Cathedral .

That would make sense :) Although 8th Station of the cross is before the crucifixion. But possibly a set made for a church.
A Continental way of writing Number, with the underlined o?
There is something written very faintly above it. Might be a monogram and date? '77 or '17?
