Tortoise figural stoneware oil lamp

Tortoise figural stoneware oil lamp.
I was a bit puzzled to start with but an oil lamp seems the most likely.
Well modelled but is it moulded or thrown and sculpted?
Any idea what country it could be from?

I have one too but I've lost my note. I have a vague idea they are a form of drum, popular in Mexico and South America

Gosh it’s the same! I’m still thinking oil lamp as it looks glazed inside. But I did get some kind of sound out of it trying it like a drum. Or maybe a water filled drum ! So possibly Latin or South American. Thank you.

Very similar piece on 3 feet. Still not sure but maybe you’re right Naomi, about it being a drum tho’ I can’t get a big sound from it. A bit similar to udu clay drums.
