Wall plaque, Continental ?

It would be good to know the maker / factory, though I think ID is unlikely with this piece. No markings whatsoever on this wall plaque/mask.
Any thoughts on date and where it may have started its life are more than welcome. Mid century maybe? Continental?
Any help here appreciated.

My first thought was Venetian mask plaques. Although it probably covers a lot of Italian towns. If so, they are pretty generic tourist souvenirs. Not that they don't look nice on the walls, and display well. But they would be fairly common with a lot of makers.
