Wow! Thank you all very much for your quick and extremely useful replies! It certainly looks like an ant and that points me to both ant and initials ANT or A n' T. Could be ant in another language such as formica in Italian or ameise in German or formiga in Portuguese. I will also look at ovse or ovie too in case it was stylized to look like an ant. It does look like some kind of writing around the shoulder, but I have not made it out and it may just be decoration.You folks are great. Really opened this up for me!

I stumbled upon the mark in The Marks Project. The ant mark belongs to potter Neal Townsend, 1934 to 2002.
