Vallauris saucepan Empty Vallauris saucepan

Looking for a bit more info on this wacky and wonderful piece.
I believe that it dates to the 1950's.
My question is whether these were made to be used, or just as a decorative item?

I don't see why it couldn't be used, looks ideal for a soup bowl.

Thanks for the feedback.
Looking to find out whether it was intentionally made as tableware. It's larger than it looks, saucepan sized with a lip to pour.
I'll add a photo of the base.

Not sure whether this would react well to a gas flame or an electric element.

I don’t think it’s meant to be put on the hob or in the oven. More likely to be a serving bowl, maybe for soup
