May be porcelain. It's a bit brownish in colour which is why I thought stoneware.dantheman wrote:dunno but Potty and I both have pieces by that potter.

Yours looks like stoneware from the image, Naomi.

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
That's what I thought. Does have some white grogg in it, though, so might be a mixture.studio-pots wrote:Yours looks like stoneware from the image, Naomi.

Because my pot has a V I was toying with the idea it might be a Michael Cardew pot, from his time in Vume, but the other two don't have the V (and it's a bit of a home-made MC stamp) so probably just wishful thinking.

lidded pot with handles
hoping this clearly marked pot will be an easy one for the forum to identify. I've lent my studio pottery marks books to a friend so can't look it up.
Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
Could it be by Molly Curley? She has an MC mark, but I think one of this MC potter's pieces may have been misidentified as one of hers on ebay.

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
Jughandles believes it's an early Mick Casson mark, but this is incorrect.

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
I've seen a small photo of Molly Curley's mark, but she appears to have a dot above the M, so probably not hers.

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
When talking about the mark on out pots he says this:
"The following mark is an early Mick Casson mark on a stoneware vessel. He didn't use this for very long, but it does turn up - and he made a wide range of items in different styles so its harder to spot that way. Note that there is no pottery mark, and the shape is much more rounded. Still a decently valuable pot!"

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
I have never seen that mark on anything by Mick Casson but BSPM does say that he used it in the early 1950s. However, at that time all of Mick Casson's work was in red earthenware so Jughandles is incorrect in everything that Potty has quoted above.

Re: CM mark (not Michael Cardew thread)
Casson seemed to keep the same font style on his marks (at least, on the ones I've seen). This is in a different font.
