Mall stoneware jar with lid.
Well made and glazed.
Wavy pattern looks like Winchcombe type .
Painted D on base, I think

D? Or O? Or a lower case n? Painted marks are difficult, as they can be put on later by anybody. Certainly school of Winchcombe, but otherwise? Very nice piece though, professionaly done.

Looks like Winchcombe pottery to me. I think the D is a mistake; maybe it was sat on a dribble of glaze

I can’t see so much of Clare Sutcliffe’s work online so hard for me to compare. I can see the painted C in the book for her. Maybe a few more photos might help. The lid is unusually pointed.

Although her mark is usually inscribed - it is similar and maybe could have been an early piece -   It does look a lovely pot especially like the attention to the lid :)

I have a c sutcliffe in my collection which i thought was quite similar... just a suggestion :)..

Suggestions always welcome! Very similar shape and glaze. It could be Clare Sutcliffe. I do like a nice clear unambiguous mark - makes it much easier. But hey....

Clare Sutcliffe is an interesting thought. She was a pupil of Michael Cardew at Wenford Bridge, and her mark is a C sometimes confused with Joanna Constantinidis. Below is a link to Bellmans auctioneers and her estate sale last year.
