Re: Brass engraved mortel with stamper
Probably not as old as it might appear, I'm afraid. From what I could find out these 'Egita 1168' mortar and pestles are 1920s-1930s or newer and were made by the English manufacturer, Peerage. You can see a few examples if you do a google image search for 'Egita 1168'.As for 'Egita', acccording to Wikipedia:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egita
I assume that 1168 is the date the place was founded or has some other importance there. The only other reference to Egita I could see was that it's a Latvian forename, but has only been used as such since the 1920s.
Sounds like a lively place!Egita (Russian: Эгита) is a rural locality (a selo) in Yeravninsky District, Republic of Buryatia, Russia. The population was 342 as of 2010.[2] There are 20 streets.

Re: Brass engraved mortel with stamper
You're welcome. It's a shame they're brass because I think that they are replicas of medieval mortars which were cast in bronze. If you'd found one of those you'd have something special! Such is the life of a collector, I suppose.

I don't think I'm so lucky but it would be nice indeed if I could find one :)
