Help Identifying Maker for Pottery Bowl Marked Germany
Hello forum members,
We have a very nice pottery bowl that tapers inward from mid section to rim such as a rose bowl. It is matte finished with two tones of brown with the lighter color appearing to be applied all over and the darker color appearing to be brushed on as in a short light stroke type design. The bowl weighs approximately 1-3/4 lbs. It is 4-3/4" tall and the rim opening is 4-3/4" in diameter. The material appears to be 1/4" thick all throughout. It is incised/impressed marked in the inside center base with small thin letters spelling GERMANY. The bowl is very smooth and feels like bisque. When tapped with a knuckle or with the edge of a metal ruler it makes a short resonating ping sound like crystal. We considered that it may be painted crystal or glass but with the GERMANY mark inside we did not think this would make sense. Note: On each side of the rim on the base there are a series of painted dots. There are approximately 13 ~ 16 on each side.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

the painted marks on the base are mysterious, why decorate the base like that?

The outside looks like it’s been stained to look like wood, but the circles could well be from bubblewrap so I wonder if the ‘stain’ will wash off.

The "circles", or perhaps more descriptive would be, the "half circles or half dots" do not wash or rub off. Thank you.
