leather lion face tankard Empty leather lion face tankard

Hello all! Is it just me or is the (lion face) on this leather tankard silver? (look at the eyes in particular!). I didn't see any marks! and obviously I couldn't remove the face! Thoughts anyone? Thank you!

Just to clarify, am I right in thinking that it is a ceramic tankard covered with leather and the lion fixed to the leather?

Are they just dark marks on the ring? On the right side, to me, I see what look like indents. They would hallmark the ring either fully, or with partial marks to indicate silver.
