Re: Studio pottery frog statue, Rye or Kye, SP mark
I'm wondering if this could be a one-off piece from Skegness Pottery. The browns look similar to those often used on Skegness pots (although brown isn't exactly uncommon), the SP mark looks about right and they did make unusual pieces alongside the more common pots and tablewares. Maybe Kye was one of their potters?
Looking around the web earlier I came across one of NaomiM's pinterest images of a Skegness Pottery advert which looks to date from the 1970s. The top-left picture on the ad shows their showroom with several figural pieces on display. I can't post links yet, but it's from Naomi's Studio Pottery Marks 5 album.

Re: Studio pottery frog statue, Rye or Kye, SP mark
Hi
Many thanks for your informative reply.i am not familiar with their work. What I can say is that this is the best studio pottery figurine I have had/seen.The photos don't do it justice to be honest, even the frogs skin has tiny scales.Whoever made this piece was/is super talented.I will try some research on Skegness Pottery too, thanks again
Best Regards
Paul

Re: Studio pottery frog statue, Rye or Kye, SP mark
You're welcome, Paul.
There are a few pictures of Skegness pots on this site, just search 'Skegness' using the search box at the top of the page.
Edit: Is the base unglazed? The colour could help to pin down the maker. Also, the frog's trousers have a very '70s look which would put the date of the piece about right with the advert that Naomi has in her pinterest album I mentioned, and the pot he's throwing has a shape not unlike some Skegness pieces.
Skegness pots were marked either underneath or on the body just above the base. It would be too much to hope that a closer inspection of the pot being thrown might reveal that the potter added a mark to it as well as to the main piece, I suppose.

It might be Kaye, rather than Kye

There is a Pat Kaye “Bronte Country” bowl on eBay with similar clay. And other slipware pieces which a seller attributes to P. Kay of Sangton Pottery, although they’re unmarked. Might be a link

Ah,thanks for that,I found a couple of Kaye's but in the USA,not this type of pottery.I find it odd that someone made a figurine of this high quality but,on the face of it,doesn't seem to have made anymore. It reminds me of Martin ware in style. It must have taken a considerable amount of time to execute.
