I have a small brown stoneware vase, with 'shoulders' and embossed decoration on the front and back.  There is a darker brown stripe running down each side of the vase.  The vase has an embossed signature on the bottom which I can't read unfortunately.  It came from a relative's collection which included some Poole pottery, so I'm wondering if there might be a connection with the area.  If someone could help identify the maker I would be really grateful.  The vase measures 6" in height and 4" at its widest.

Maybe an Eastern European word on the base?

Thanks Naomi - it's difficult to tell. I thought it might start with 'Nega...' And '....ider or n' at the end?

Maybe Cyrillic (Russian) or Greek. I can read Cyrillic but can't quite make it work. The first four letters would be ts-e-r-a in Cyrillic.

Thanks carolalev. Yes, I wondered about Greek - I can read the Russian alphabet so don't think it's that. Such a mystery!

If it's Greek then maybe it starts Meram...
