I may be wrong, but it looks like Pat Hammonds' work, Clifford Ceramics.

Unlikely to be British

The mark isn't familiar but it is wood-fired stoneware and, I suspect, made in the States and likely to have been from around where it was found by you.

I don't doubt what you both say, reference it not being British, my knowledge on studio pottery is sketchy at times, but what is it I am not seeing / missing that makes this so obvious to you both? I only ask because I would be glad to learn something new. Is it that the majority of pots in the US are wood fired, or something else?

The owner lives in the US ![Laughter](/users/1414/55/01/63/smiles/314189.gif)
But to add, our woodfirers are few and far between and so their work is quite well known. And the colours are different, probably because of a combination of clay type and species of wood - off the top of my head, spruce v’s hard wood?

Lol, I'll pop my glasses on
Thanks Naomi. I'll scroll ebay for American pots, try and familiarise myself a little more.

The shape also influenced me as it is not traditional Japanese or something I have seen in the UK.

Thank you Studio, much appreciated.
I thought I recognised the mark so I checked the book. Having googled her work I put 2 & 2 together and came up with ……

That is a problem with "the book" in general. It's my view that the marks are only useful to confirm an identification not to make one.
