No, it’s an applied layer that’s been combed.
Fairly typical of the 60s-70s. Signed GM5 or GMs. I’m afraid it’s most likely by a hobby potter.

Ha ha,as far as l know could be. Total novice in this field, just can't resist a signed pot. Just seen Naomi's post and I think hobbyist is right the pot looks to be made in two parts and the lava is there to hide the join. Still having fun investigating though. Many thanks
