Most likely by a hobby potter. Judging by the marks used by our local pottery group, the square could be that particular evening class’s code.

Hi N, Photo's don't do the pot justice - it's certainly not a hobby potter in an evening class...

I'm thinking more of the likes of the West Street Potters at Farnham, rather than school children or adult evening beginners classes. Technically they are hobby potters in that few make a living from it, and they only pot in the 'classroom', but for many their work is of a professional standard
