After speaking to Eric's son I now understand that this design and other 'Leaper' animal designs were the work of Bill Fisher, this was quite apparent when a Bill Fisher lion sold on ebay recently

I recently bought a second Leaper night light, the two together show the different glazes used by Leaper when he moved to Sennen

Re: Eric Leaper
Having seen a couple I've recently purchased, my GF really loved the small Bison and decided she had to have one. Not being a 'collector' she wasn't worried about some damage and purchased one with a bird both of which were chipped (fairly cheaply). The bisons chip to the horn is actually really small and doesn't detract from it at all.
But what did surprise me when it arrived, was the eyes. On all those I've seen pics of, the eyes are round - but her one has narrow slit eyes (perhaps an oriental Bison
) which makes it look rather evil.
I really like this myself.

Has anyone else seen any Leaper bison with eyes like this before ?

Love the stripey coffee pot
My Leaper pieces are a pair of little dishes. One signed one not - is that normal? Those glazes are pretty amazing aren't they? Any information on dates etc gratefully received. I assume they are earthenware. 11.5cm (diameter).

Re: Eric Leaper
Regarding the design of this owl , I got Tom leapers email from DTM and this was Tom's reply ,
its definatly leaper pottery, bill didn't design it tho, it was my mother who designed it,i actualy remember her doing it, her name was vanny leaper (she was welsh), she designed a lot of the stuff, owls robins etc, bill desgined 2 sizes of bulls, not the long one as dad did that, but the one with its head facing sideways, hope that helps, yrs tom
Thanks to Tom for that info .( bill- Bill fisher)

Re: Eric Leaper
I've finally managed to get one of the large Leaper Bulls/Bison to add to my 'zoo'.
I much prefer these with just a light drizzle of red, rather than those almost drowned in red. You get so many other nice colours in the glaze.
