Interesting. That base looks reasonably older than 1980. A blank that someone was practicing decoration on?
Any mention of Bristol pottery must conjure up Poultney pottery. One of the oldest of British potteries, which finally ran out on its last legs in the 1970's.
There is also a modern Bristol pottery at Stoke's Croft using this type of colouring.

Probably Charlie Smith who was one of the few decorators alllowed to do Blue Scroll, he started working for them in 1916, he did continue after the closure of the Bristol factory in 1969. The pattern also comes in red which is quite rare

Maybe 80 is a pattern number, although it doesn’t look very old

Just looked up Bristol Pountney Pottery and Charlie Smith - there's a long interview with him on the Bristol Museum page but no examples of his work that I can find.

Ah found a few examples but all with the paint stamp mark. The theory it's a later piece decorated by Charlie looks a good way to go. Cheers everyone
