Small footed bowl No markings
Any help on identifying this small footed bowl would be greatly appreciated. There are no markings and I was told that it was originally purchased at Liberty in London a number of years ago!

Re: Small footed bowl No markings
By chance I went to buy a pot last week from someone, who for many years work in the ceramics department at Liberty.
She told me that they always found it difficult to sell ceramics there by well known potters on a exhibition type basis, although she said Lucie Rie was an exception. However, functional wares were always popular and in her time these were selected from kilns/small factory operations in China and Japan as well as this country. I suspect this falls into that category and so is going to probably be impossible to identify.

Interesting SP. My first thought was Oriental but when I saw it was from Libertys I assumed it must be a Studio pot. But I think Oriental is most likely. I don’t know which country, sorry, but I think the staining of the crackle glaze was done at the time of manufacture, so probably new when you got it.

From what the lady told me I suspect Japanese, as that is where she suggested the majority came from. She said all of the work was selected on its look rather than who made it and was sold as such.

I watched the documentary series on Libertys, where their Persian buyer trotted off to Morocco and bought a load of Safi pots from a bazaar. £1 at the charity shop, or £50-£150 from Libertys :D
