Deirdre Burnett

Perhaps best known for her delicate porcelain altered forms of the 70's and 80's. From 1990 she did reactive glazes with volcanic surfaces.

Her mark.

I finally got around to asking Deirdre about the pot above, Naomi. I just sent her the big image and didn't tell her that it was marked and so that is why she uses the word "think".

This was her reply, "The pot was a shock to the system! The foot would be the identification, even without a seal. I had no recollection of making tall versions but that looks like an early version of a family called crowns. Because the glaze is my 'yours faithfully' I think it is mine. Crowns were around when I showed at the CPA 1976 They were a squat version of the image you sent.

 I have seen the shorter version online. Nice to have a date. A shame one of the leaves is chipped.

Chipping is something that must have happened on many of her pieces from that period.

I thought that I had put this here previously but it appears that I didn't.

I valued Deirdre's ceramics that she still had when she died for the purpose of Probate at the end of last year and below are images of some of these items.

First off are a few functional pieces of tea ware that are unmarked and were produced for a couple of cafes/restaurants at the beginning of her career.

A number of low porcelain bowls with her usual DB mark, as all of the other items have.

Some of this shape were in porcelain and others in stoneware.

ID please or confirm: Possibly Deirdre Burnett stoneware bowl raised DB mark? I've included an online picture reference of her work. Will remove ref pictures if not acceptable.

Not sure where you got the reference image from so I have removed it. I did the Probate valuation of all of Dierdre's pots after her death and the ones in the image that I have removed looked very familiar.

Therefore, I wouldn't have needed the image to be able to confirm that your footed bowl was made by her.

I would suggest that these were a development from your form, as the stoneware body was thinner. I do recall a larger low stoneware bowl with holes during Probate, where the stoneware was thicker.

Thanks for your info, nice pots and their is a similarity to the two on the left.

The bowl is only a wee nipper standing at 6.3 cm high x 7.5 cm wide.
