Beautiful Arts Crafts Lustre Vase - Any ideas?
This is not hand thrown, so was wondering if anyone had come across the shape before?
It is not marked other than 417 7556 to the base.
Initially - I wondered if it was Lancastrian or Carlton Ware - Just not sure - any ideas would be V welcome.
Cheers

Very tough to be specific. That glaze is a little at odds with the design. The oily glaze was very popular in the UK in 1920's, that design though is from about 15-20 years earlier. I don't think it is English. I can't think of a Staffordshire maker who would mark the base like that, with that design. The other similar UK makers don't mark with numbers but name what they make.
So if you have a design like that with an ahead of its time glaze and numbers underneath. It all points you to the Austrian region before WW1 1905-1915.
Of course It could be Craven and Dunill putting tile designs on a ceramic blank in about 1900. But the chances are much smaller.

The number font doesn't strike me as Continental - no strike through the 7, for example. Doesn't prove much, though!

Seems a match for Spano lustre. Not see any unmarked Foley. They always seemed really good at letting you know they made it but no doubt is the same design.

It could even be a Frederick Rhead design. It certainly has the Rhead look
