Thanks sp for your help.
Looked at the thread and looks same glaze to me too, thanks for that. Part of a domestic wear range which included your teapot possibly?
It had an enormous cork in the top when I bought it, just took it out for id photos...no idea if that was the original top but it looks aged.

Yes, the cork would be original. He used corks in that way, which is even more proof, if more was needed.

Early piece by Colin Pearson, likely to be pre-1970s. From his domestic ware range

Here's the latest vase added to my personal collection. Added on a mixed thread on the Forum previously but thought it ought to be here too.

Nice! Fascinating really how Colin Pearson made that transition from reasonable production potter in the Leach vein to Fine Art potter. The amazing contrast being fully illustrated on this thread. , Off the cuff, I cannot think of any potter who made quite the same journey so spectacularly.

I suppose you could include John Maltby in the same category but I know what you mean. I did meet him a few times but never got around to asking him and, like you, I would be fascinated to know how it came about.

Lovely short film made in 1998 showing Colin Pearson making a large winged pot with commentary by him. Really well worth watching.

I’d put Richard Godfrey in the same category. I met him at Farhnam Art In Clay a few years before his death and commented about his potting style being so different and he said it was because he could now afford to concentrate on the pottery he loved and didn’t have to make a living from it like he did when he was churning out thousands of standard ware pieces for restaurant chains in London and the South East in the 70s-80s

A stoneware vase which has a slightly more individual feel than the production pottery. Doh!

Maybe made at the same time as Denby’s vase at the top

A dramatic craggy looking black Colin Pearson winged vase. A problem with some of the more ambitious wings is they can quite easlily get damaged - as illustrated in the next photo. This was a really nice piece tho.

This was the damage on the Colin Pearson  piece above.

. A fault that these delicate wings are prone to. Can be restored by a professional restorer (at a price!) to look as good as new. By the very nature of the wings if the restoration was well done, it would be very difficult to tell. But still a restored piece. Did not seem to bother the eventual owner tho. It still went for a substantial price! Laughter

I’ve never had an exciting Colin Pearson piece ... yet.
But just checking that this is his work. If only all marks were as clear as this.
And would it be from 1961-1984 period at Quay Pottery before exciting work with wings?
Thank you. I promise to come back with a special piece of his another time.

When Colin Pearson goes large, the results can be quite spectacular. This vase is 66cms wide
