Looks like an early Dartington style decoration by David Leach or Janice Tchalenko but SS mark

Looks like it could be SC with some funny loops draped around it.

Could be. The decoration is similar to Slaidburn Pottery by Melvyn & Irene Swindells. They're not in the Marks book. Usual mark is M but maybe it's an early example?
Or possibly FS for Frank Smith
