Unknown Northamptonshire studio potter - Elizabeth Saunders?

Post by skipposal on Thu Feb 21, 2013 8:46 pm

Hi everyone - my first request for an ID is for a potter I collected during the early 1990s in Northants. The bird spout jug came from an exhibition at Northampton's Central Museum but I lost the details and the mark was obscured by glaze. I've since collected more of her work with clear marks so think it's time I found out who she (or possibly he) is. Does anyone recognise the work? All stoneware and all in these distinctive polychrome glazes. Many thanks.

Jim Bassett has kindly emailed me back with the following
"I think your pot may have been made by an ex guild member Liz Saunders, but I don't recognise/remember the mark!
I have passed on your enquiry to John Mathieson and Deborah Hopson-Wolpe who were my contemopary Guild members. I think Liz left the Guild and maybe potting with serious arthritis."

The name sounds right to me but hey, it was nearly 20 years ago!

ID help on studio teapot - Dartington? - Elizabeth Saunders?

Post by jonbearwood on Sat Feb 14, 2015 10:20 am

Shape looks like Dartington but doesn't quite seem right. †There is a faint impressed mark where the handle joins the main body. †Bottom is unglazed and unmarked. †Any help appreciated.

The base and clay look the same. Potters donít always stick to the same thing over the years
