Irish urn vase stamped identification help
I own this, quite large, urn type vase. About 12 inches high, painted, gilded, crazing all over. Hallmark showing: "Made in Ireland" and letters "W A L" (as I think) in circles, which look a bit like stylized clover. Any help with identification, age etc. very appreciated.

Re: Irish urn vase stamped identification help
It looks 1930s Czech. Maybe it was imported into Ireland and sold on from there to avoid import duty during the Great Depression?

Re: Irish urn vase stamped identification help
Well, this is all very curious. "W&A L" points to Wild & Adams Limited of Longton, Staffordshire. They were in business from 1909, but only a limited company from 1923-27. Their name appears on some spookily similar vases marked "ENGLAND", which indeed look much more Central Europe than English or Irish.

Are you maybe mis-reading the smudged mark?
It looks as if it could just as easily be England also.

I think you're right. Probably not a shamrock at all...

Re: Irish urn vase stamped identification help
Aye, now I think it might be "England"... And with other clues, rather it is.

Well that's much clearer, however I can't find any reference to this mark in Goddens.

Yes that is the page from Goddens, but this mark isn't shown.
Not listed on thepotteries.org unfortunately.
The style of pot would fit the date range however,

Re: Irish urn vase stamped identification help
My first thought was Staffordshire, the 'L' probably standing for Longton.
