Re: John Bedding
There has been a discussion about this on a couple of collectors forums but I'm assured that the attribution was straight from the horse's mouth.

Re: John Bedding
Looking at his website, which has galleries showing images of pots from his past, he doesn't seem to have made anything like this since the 1970s when he was at the Leach Pottery. It would be interesting to know when the horse said he made it.

Re: John Bedding
In the Leach Pottery St. Ives book it states that Bedding went to St. Ives from London with the intention of working at the Leach Pottery. It also says he worked at two local potteries before Janet agreed to take him on in 1968. One of these was Troika but maybe this is the other one?
There is not indication in that book that he made anything other than lower fired/raku type work after leaving the Leach Pottery for the second time in 1978.

Possibly going by the marks, Arch Pottery or Tregenna Hill Pottery - from 1955 to 1960
Kenneth Quick maybe.

John Bedding, Cross Street, Penzance
Here's John Bedding's reply:
Dear .....
Yes it is one of my domestic standard pots and was made when I had my pottery in Cross Street Penzance, hence the cross as the pottery was called Cross Pottery. I am sure it is good to lay that one to rest.
Best wishes
John Bedding

Re: John Bedding
I wonder why it's marked St. Ives if the pottery was in Penzance?

Re: John Bedding
This is from his website and I quote, "I returned to England in 1980 and set up my own workshop, firstly in Penzance, and later Trencrom, on the outskirts of St Ives. At Trencrom I moved away from the more traditional Stoneware and Porcelain to explore low fired fuming and raku techniques in my search for a more individual style."
Note:- After leaving the Leach Pottery in 1978 he went to Japan and worked in Tanba with Shigeyoshi Ichino, who he had become friends with at the Leach Pottery.

John Bedding.
Here's a small bottle vase of his which stands a few inches tall... I guess it's from the 1970s.

Thanks Naomi. I knew I'd seen the mark and being a quality piece that makes sense, just couldn't place it.
Much obliged

Re: John Bedding
Sharing this from St Ives Ceramics FB page
After opening St Ives Ceramics in the Fish Street premises, John Bedding held the first exhibition, which lead to an increased ability to acquire new pots for the gallery space.
"The tide turned in 1992 with my first exhibition at the gallery entitled “Leach Cardew Connection”, which was a comparative show of ex-Bernard Leach and Michael Cardew students. David Leach agreed to exhibit along with other leading potters. Its success opened doors for me, and I was able to approach other potters I admired.
The next few years saw a succession of exhibitions and a growing reputation. At first I tried to manage making and selling on my own, but soon realised I needed someone out front. Amanda Ray, daughter of a local painter became the salesperson. Money was tight so to supplement her wages I taught her how to make raku jewellery, which she made during quiet periods."
